D’Angelo Album Coming Soon? Riiiiiiight.

30 Nov

So according to a new article on PRWeb, a spokesperson is saying that a new album from D’Angelo is finally approaching completion. A quote from the story:

“D’Angelo is completely and totally immersed in this album,” says D’Angelo’s spokesperson Dyana Williams. “This is the next level of his artistic expression. He is like a proud father and this album is his musical child. This album will be well worth the wait.”

Williams said that the wait should only be until Spring ’09, but I’ll believe it when I hear a finished product. I’ve been hearing rumors about a D’Angelo album for years now, and that shit’s not funny anymore. First he had two of the best albums the genre has ever seen, in Brown Sugar and Voodoo. Then he makes memorable cameos on songs with Raphael Saadiq, Slum Village, Snoop (best song on that fuckin’ album), Dilla, and Common. And he murdered the joint on Q-Tip’s new album. Nigga says four or five words on a cameo, but he’ll move you just with his voice. “If you imagine.” “I believe, let’s go.” So imagine when he actually brings the lyrics that back up the vocals.

And he snuck in the Grammy’s this year with his remake of “I Found My Smile Again.” Listen to that joint below (shouts to Shake), and click here to cop it on iTunes.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

So all things considered, you can’t rush greatness. I’ma actually give him the respect of not even posting his mugshot from his arrest a few years back. But D’Angelo, you better fuckin’ stick to this spring ’08 release. There’s some great R&B youngsters out there, but getting schooled by you on how to really do this shit wouldn’t hurt.

[…] years (wow, has it been that long?), he’s also had some incredible cameo spots, and he even snuck in the Grammy’s last year. With this long of a time period between albums, I don’t have any reason to think this […]
