Two New Songs From Jadakiss

10 Jan

All that’s missing from this photo is the Ninja Turles mask going-in goggles. Looks like Jadakiss is on a winning streak with the songs he’s leaked from his approaching Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam debut, The Last Kiss. As if the Jay-Z-adlibbed “Who Run This” and the Ne-Yo-assisted “By My Side” weren’t enough to get people ready, these two new joints are pretty official, too.

I can’t tell if this is Akon utilizing the vocoder on this “I Stay Ten Toes Down” song, but it doesn’t matter – Jada’s still spitting the same cocky, clever flow that’s become his signature.

More impressive, though, is “Can’t Stop Me,” which sees him flexing lyrical calisthenics over a radio-friendly beat and (albeit repetitive) beat. Imagine Jay-Z’s “H To The Izzo,” but more tolerable.

I’m hoping that this will be the album that he’s capable of. While he’s always been incredibly talented, his LPs have never quite did the trick to me. Don’t get it twisted, he’s had his share of solid singles (“We Gon’ Make It” = flawless), and he’s even got some solid album cuts. But for someone who proclaims himself as one of the Top 5 rappers dead or alive (and Q-Tip virtually agrees!), they don’t cut it. If anything, Styles P’s solo projects have been more engaging. What do y’all think?
