President Obama: “Families are tightening their belts, and so should Washington.”

22 Jan

As you can see above, President Barack Obama is already getting to work. Homie’s first order of business yesterday was freezing the salaries of White House aides who made more than $100,000 a year. His justification?

“Families are tightening their belts, and so should Washington.”

Word! He also implemented some new limitations for lobbyists in Washington, as well as his own staffers. Lobbyists can’t give gifts to anyone in his administration, and aides who leave his administration can’t try to influence their former colleagues for at least two years, and people who are already helping in his administration are banned from working on matters that they previously lobbied on, and from approaching agencies they had targetted before.

For more details, read the Yahoo article.

This is looking interesting, esp. the fact that he’d hit the wallets of people in Washington first – I say that sends a great message to the rest of the country that he’s taking this economic problem seriously, and that he’s making sure that his staff is as well. Of course, the steps he takes to actually solve the problem are a different issue, but this seems like a great way to buckle people down and show your citizens that you mean business.

Regardless of what legislation Obama puts in place, it’s up to the individual to take care of one’s self and one’s own. We should not expect any sweeping changes to really make a measurable difference in our lives. We live in a nation that feels entitled to great things; even though, most of those in this country have done nothing to deserve a damn thing. That is the very reason why we are in the crisis.

I send this out to anyone that really reads – GROW UP, GET REAL AND GET A CLUE. You should work on personal development first, then try and help your fellow man. It’s only the Christian/Jewish/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/Scientologist thing to do.

I agree, to a certain extent. Even Obama himself has said that everyone has to do their part.

But what you’re saying also implies that someone has to be pretty damn perfect to help their fellow man. And that’s not true; helping others can actually HELP you develop personally.
