Raphael Saadiq, “100 Yard Dash” (Music Video)

27 Jan

The homie Miso Brown got me an autographed copy of Raphael Saadiq’s The Way I See It album from last year, and it was the fuckin’ truth. And if you know anything about Saadiq’s catalog, you know to expect nothing less.

This new video is for the latest single off of the album, “100 Yard Dash.” It’s a fun, care-free song, and I think the visual is well-done . Follow the jump to watch the video and to read a few words re: Saadiq’s creative process behind it.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

When Raphael Saadiq began brainstorming ideas of what the video for his song ‘100 Yard Dash’ should look like, he was reminded of the concept behind the song’s album title: ‘The Way I See It.’ He wanted a visual that would evoke the same era and the same mood that he was going for with the track itself (which sonically, he says, has “an old feel but a new feel, too.”) “I just wanted to create something that wouldn’t take away from the song,” Saadiq tells Spinner. “It’s like working on an album — when you add strings and drums to the idea, you always want it to enhance what you’re doing. So this video is just another extension of ‘The Way I See It.'”

Mission accomplished. Shouts to Malaika!

    Loving the blog!
I would like to ask you if you would be kind enough to update your embedded version of Raphael Saadiq’s “100 Yard Dash” video with a higher quality version. The version currently existing on your site is overly compressed and inaccurately “squeezed” into a smaller non-widescreen window. We (those of us who worked hard with Raphael in the creation of this video) feel this better quality version much more accurately depicts our vision of a project we are all very excited about.

    Higher quality video available here:

or you can embedd it by pasting the following code:
